FOOD SHAPES

Quick Shape Lessons

Vegetable soup is filed with different vegetable shapes.
Crackers come in different shapes.
Bagels are round, toast is a rectangle.
Chopped celery is crescent shaped.
Watermelon wedges are triangles.
Sliced eggs are oval.
Apples cut sideways have a star inside.

DOUGH SHAPES
Thaw some frozen bread or biscuit dough and divide it into small pieces. Then show your child how to roll the dough into long ropes. Encourage your child to turn these ropes into circles, squares, triangles and rectangles. Follow the package directions and bake up some bread shapes for dinner or snacktime.

Note: You can also have your child make shapes from cool cooked spaghetti noodles.

SANDWICH SHAPES
When you are making your child a sandwich, ask if he wants it cut into rectangles or triangles or four small squares. Children learn a lot about fractions by doing this also.
