SHAKE UP THE NEW YEAR

Here are some shaker ideas your children can use to ring in the new year.

CARDBOARD TUBE SHAKERS
To make this shaker, you will need a cardboard tube, some waxed paper (or foil paper), some tape and some rice or small dried beans.

Help your child cover one end of his cardboard tube with paper, then tape it into place.
Next, have your child pour ¼ cup of uncooked rice or beans into the tube.
Finally, cover the open end with paper and tape.
Let your child decorate their shaker with stickers and marking pens.

PAPER SACK SHAKERS
Give your child a small paper sack to decorate.
Then have them pour a small amount of rice or dried beans into the sack.
Then have your child twist the top of the sack into a handle.
Wrap the handle with tape to secure.

ADDITIONAL SHAKERS
Here are some additional items that can be used to make noisy shakers.

Oatmeal boxes
Plastic Jars or Bottles
Metal boxes
Plastic eggs
