NEW YEAR’S SONGS AND RHYMES

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Tune:  “Happy Birthday”

Happy New Year to you.
May all your wishes come true.
Happy New Year my friend.
Happy New Year to you.
                   Jean Warren

THE PEOPLE ON THE BUS

Tune:  “The Wheels On The Bus”

Oh, the people on the bus wear party hats,
Party hats, party hats.   (Children place hands together in a point over their heads)
Oh, the people on the bus wear party hats,
All through the town.

Oh, the people on the bus are blowing horns,
Blowing horns, blowing horns.  (Children place fist over their mouth)
Oh the people on the bus are blowing horns,
All through the town.

Oh, the people on the bus say, “Happy New Year”,
“Happy New Year”,  “Happy New Year”.
Oh, the people on the bus say, “Happy New Year”,
All through the town.
                                    Addapted Traditional

THE CLOCK IS TICKING DOWN
Tune:  “The Farmer In The Dell”

The clock is ticking down.
Get ready for the sound.
Boom, Bang, it’s 12 o’clock
Fireworks all around!
                        Jean Warren

(Hold up large clock. Move hands to 12 o’clock.  Have children blow horns or use other noise makers.)

TOOT YOUR HORN

Tune:  “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”

Toot, toot, toot your horn,
Toot it loud and clear.
Toot it high and toot it low
To welcome the new year!
                        Elizabeth Scofield

(Add additional verses, such as, Bang, bang, bang your drum; Ring, ring, ring your bell; Clap, clap, clap your hands; Stomp, stomp, stomp your feet.)

LET’S CELEBRATE THE SEASON
Tune: “Jingle Bells”

Let’s celebrate the season.
It is a brand new year.
January’s come
Let’s sing out loud and clear.

Time to blow your horn.
Time to ring your bell.
Don’t you love winter time.
It really is quite swell.

Wooley clothes, frozen toes,
Snow pals all around.
What a lovely time of year
With snow upon the ground.

Frozen ponds, angel lawns,
Skating we will go.
Then we’ll ride upon our sleds
Down the hills of snow.
Jean Warren

BELLS ARE RINGING

Tune: “Frere Jacques”

Bells are ringing.
People singing.
New Year’s here.
New Year’s here
Happy, Happy New Year
Happy, Happy New Year
Let’s all cheer.
New Year’s here!
Jean Warren

NEW YEAR’S PARADE
Tune: “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again”

The children are marching into town, hooray, hooray.
The children are marching in a New Year’s Parade.
Some have hats and some have horns.
Some have dolls that look new born.
Oh, we’re oh, so glad that the children could come today.

The children are marching into town, hooray, hooray.
Some are throwing confetti as they come our way.
Some bang lids and some beat pans,
Some keep waving both their hands.
Oh, we’re oh, so glad that the children could come today.
Jean Warren
Give your children instruments and other props and let them march around the room.
