COUNTING BLUE BIRDS
- Using the medium bird pattern, cut out four birds, from
blue felt.
- Place the birds on a felt board up in a brown felt tree.
- Recite the following number rhyme.
FOUR LITTLE BLUE BIRDS
Four little blue birds up in a tree.
One flew away, then there were three.
(Remove one bird from the board)
Three little blue birds with nothing to do.
One flew away, then there were two.
(Remove another bird)
Two little blue birds, sitting in the sun.
One flew away, then there was one.
(Remove another bird)
One little blue bird, sitting all alone.
He flew off and went back home.
(Remove last bird)
EXTENSION
Have your children act out the rhyme. Choose four children
to be the birds and have them fly off one at a time.
