  More Sewing Fun

Sewing Placemat
Find an old vinyl placemat. Use a hole punch to punch holes around the placemat, about ½ inch from the edge and 1 inch apart. Tie a long shoelace to one of the holes. Let your child "sew" the placemat by weaving the shoelace in and out of the holes.

Sewing on Plastic Canvas

Purchase a sheet of plastic canvas or a package of plastic canvas shapes (available at craft stores). If you are using a sheet of plastic canvas, cut out a small square for your child to work with. Thread a short length of yarn onto a plastic needle. Show your child how to push the needle up and down through the holes in the plastic canvas to make yarn designs. Let your child use more than one color of yarn.
