TOY PARADE

A Musical Story by Jean Warren

This is a musical story sung to the tune of “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again”.
It is written for children ages 2 – 5.  Each child holds a toy, but also becomes the toy in
the production. Divide children into small groups of toys.  Adults do the singing.

ENTRANCE SONG  (Children march in, one by one, across the stage holding a toy.)
The toys are marching into town, hooray! hooray!
The toys are in a great big Toy Parade.
There are dolls, wagons and bears,
Balls and tops and planes in the air.
Oh, we’re oh so glad that the toys could come today.

DOLL SONG  (Dolls come forward and dance back across the stage and exit)
The dolls are coming into town, hooray! hooray!
The dolls are dancing as they come our way.
See them twirl, ‘round and ‘round.
See their arms go up and down.
Oh, we’re oh so glad that the dolls could come today.

WAGON SONG  (Wagons come forward and roll wagons back across the stage and exit)
The wagons are coming into town, hooray! hooray!
The wagons are rolling as they come our way.
See their wheels go ‘round and ‘round.
See their handles go up and down.
Oh, we’re oh so glad that the wagons could come today.

BEAR SONG  (Bears come forward and march back across the stage and exit)
The bears are coming into town, hooray! hooray!
The bears are marching as they come our way.
See them march to and fro.
See them salute as they go.
Oh, we’re oh so glad that the bears could come today.

BALL SONG  (Balls come forward and march back across the stage and exit)
The balls are coming into town, hooray! hooray!
The balls are bouncing as they come our way.
See them bounce up and down.
See them bounce all around.
Oh, we’re oh so glad that the balls could come today.

TOP SONG  (Tops come forward and march back across the stage and exit)
The tops are coming into town, hooray! hooray!
The tops are spinning as they come our way.
See the tops spin around.
See the tops then, all fall down.
Oh, we’re oh so glad the tops could come today.

PLANE SONG (Planes come forward and fly back across the stage and exit)
The planes are coming into town, hooray! hooray!
The planes are flying as they come our way.
See the planes fly around.
Up they go, then come down.
Oh, we’re oh so glad that the planes could come today.

THE END  (Children all come back on stage and do their motion, then bow)

(Note:  The Wagon song is the only song that requires the children to not be the toy,
but to pull the actual wagons.  This may be a perfect part for a shy child who doesn’t
like to perform.)
